All Plainfield 2009/2010 Performers - The Past

The Cardinal Fanatic did not know what to expect from the Cardinals. Loosing 4/5 of their starting lineup from the 2008 – 2009 Group 4 Section 2 champions would be considered a major rebuilding project for the 2009 – 2010 year. There was some hope with sophomore sensation Tyrone Johnson entering his junior year with 2 years varsity experience. There was still a big question mark on who would fill the shoes of Isaiah “Curly Neal” Epps, Anthony “From Beyond” Baskerville, Khalid “The Rejecter” Muhammad, and Jabril “Mr. Hops” Elliot.

The 2008 – 2009 ended on a controversial mishap which rang through the Queen City inner basketball circles for months like a horrible horror movie with a cryptic ending. The lost to Paterson East Side was devastating. Many did not believe the Card’s could repeat to win a sectional title with the majority of impact players lost to graduation but a conversation that the Cardinal Fanatic had with Coach Hunter of Maxon Middle School 3 years prior led me to believe that the Big Red Bird would surprise many for 2009 – 2010.

The Cardinal Fanatic asked Coach Hunter, after current St. Patrick star Derrick Gordon graduated from Maxon and completed his first season at the port; I guess you had to rebuild your dynasty you had with Derrick. Hunter replied, “Pleaseeeeee, although Derrick led us to 2 dominating seasons, the returning team was better!” Cardinal Fanatic replied, “Excuse me? Hunter explained, “My returning players are better than the previous 2 years as a team. I have 5 players that can dunk at the age of 13.” The beak off of the Cardinal Fanatic had to be picked up off the floor due to the astonishment of such a statement. Hunter further stated, “Many teams questioned the age of our players due to their size and maturity. These guys will help the Cardinals for years to come.”

To be continued….
