Elizabeth vs Plainfield Game


A Fanatic Summation of the Elizabeth vs. Plainfield Game

 
Plainfield never got it going as Elizabeth pulled away with the easy victory.

Block Shots – Advantage (Plainfield)
Plainfield rejected 6 shot attempts while Elizabeth rejected 3.  Plainfield’s Jordan Sears rejected a game high tying 2 shot attempts.

Assists – Advantage (Elizabeth)
Elizabeth dropped off 8 assists while Plainfield dropped 6 assists.  Plainfield’s JaQue Wilson and Najee Lucky led Plainfield with a combined 4 assists.

Rebounds – Advantage (Elizabeth)
Elizabeth grabbed 28 rebounds while Plainfield grabbed 26. 

Free Throw Shooting – Advantage (Elizabeth)
Elizabeth converted 7 free throw attempts compared to Plainfield’s 6. 


Although up to this point Plainfield had only 1 category with an advantage, the Cardinals were closely even with Elizabeth in the others.  The following categories are where the Cardinals let the game get away from them.

Turnovers – Advantage (Elizabeth)
Elizabeth committed 12 turnovers compared to Plainfield’s 22.  This gave Linden a 10-possession advantage or a potential 20 points difference in the game.

Steals – Advantage (Elizabeth)
Elizabeth picked up 16 steals while Plainfield picked up 6.  JaQue Wilson and Wade Brown combined to pick up 4 steals for Plainfield.

3-Point Shooting – Advantage (Elizabeth)
Elizabeth converted 7 3-point attempts while Plainfield converted 4.  This gave Elizabeth a 9-point advantage.  Plainfield’s Najee Lucky and Elizabeth’s Temple bound star quarterback Phillip Walker both converted 2 3-point shot attempts.

Elizabeth converted 13 field goals below the arc compared to 10 by Plainfield.  This gave Elizabeth a 6-point advantage in this category.

1)      Elizabeth - Senior Isaiah Davis 6’5” – {ER-23}
Davis shot 83% from below the arc and 50% from beyond the arc to score 14 points.  Isaiah grabbed a game high 7 rebounds, picked up a game high 4 steals and rejected a game high tying 2 shot attempts.

2)      Elizabeth – Senior Hakeem Rogers 6’2” – {ER-18}
Hakeem the Dream shot 50% from below the arc and improved his shooting accuracy when he stepped beyond the arc by knocking down 67% of his attempts.  Rogers was also perfect from the foul line to score a game high 16 points.  Rogers also grabbed 3 rebounds, picked up 3 steals and dropped off 2 assists.  Hakeem completed an efficient night by only committing 1 turnover for the entire game.

3)      Elizabeth – Senior Damon Miraud 6’4” – {ER-15}
Miraud shot 67% from below the arc, grabbed 6 rebounds, picked up 3 steals, dropped off an assist, and rejected 1 shot attempt.  Miraud completed a very efficient night by not committing a single turnover for the entire game.

4)      Elizabeth – Junior Jalen Jenkins 6’0” – {ER-10}
JJ shot 50% from below the arc, grabbed 4 rebounds, dropped off a game high 3 assists and picked up 2 steals. Jenkins had an exceptional efficient night by giving an impressive 3:0 assist to turnover ratio.

5)      Plainfield – Senior Denzel Christian 6’6” – {ER-9}
DC helped Plainfield to not get swept in the all efficiency players of the game.  Denzel grabbed a team high 6 rebounds rejected 1 shot attempt.

Linden vs Plainfield Game


A Fanatic Summation of the Linden vs. Plainfield Game

Plainfield started off hot but Linden adjusted and pulled away for the victory.

Block Shots – Advantage (Plainfield)
Plainfield rejected 8 shot attempts while Linden rejected 5.  Plainfield’s Ahmad Baker rejected a game high 4 shot attempts.

Steals – Advantage (Plainfield)
Plainfield picked up 6 steals while Linden picked up 4.  Plainfield’s Denzel Johnson had a game high 3 steals.

3-point Shooting – Advantage (Plainfield)
Plainfield converted 2 treys while Linden converted 1.  Plainfield’s Denzel Johnson and JaQue Wilson connected on Plainfield’s 2 3-point makes.

Turnovers – Advantage (Linden)
Linden committed 9 turnovers compared to Plainfield’s 10. 

Up to this point Plainfield was in good shape against one of the best public schools in the state. Plainfield had 4 more possessions and held a 3-point advantage in point scored.  So where did the Cardinals lose this game? 

Free Throw Shooting – Advantage (Linden)
Linden connected on 13 free throws compared to Plainfield’s 5.  This gave Linden an 8-point advantage.  This category alone erased Plainfield’s 3-point advantage.

Rebounds – Advantage (Linden)
This is usually Plainfield’s strength but Linden controlled the glass in this game.  Linden grabbed 31 rebounds compared to Plainfield’s 18 rebounds.  This category erased Plainfield’s advantage in possessions and gave Linden 10 more possessions than Plainfield.

Assists – Advantage (Linden)
Linden dished out 9 assists while Plainfield dished out 5 assists.  Linden’s Juwan Dolbrice dished out a game high 7 assists.

Points in the Paint – Advantage (Linden)
Linden converted 22 field goals below the arc compared to 13 by Plainfield.  This gave Linden an 18-point advantage in this category.

 

The Cardinal Fanatic Efficiency Players of the game


1)      Linden - Junior Quadri Moore 6’9” – {ER-32}
Quadri showed why he is considered one of the top underclassmen in the state.  Moore shot 62% from the field to score a game high 22 points.  Quadri earned a double-double performance by grabbing a game high 15 rebounds.  Moore also picked up a steal and rejected a team high tying 2 shot attempts (Terrell Bagley also with 2 rejections)

2)      Linden – Junior Terrell Bagley 6’4” – {ER-17}
Bagley was perfect from the free throw line, grabbed 7 boards, picked up a steal, dropped off an assist and rejected a team high tying 2 shot attempts. Bagley completed a very efficient night by not committing a turnover for the entire game.

3)      Linden – Junior Alonzo Hamilton 6’4” – {ER-14}
Hamilton was sizzling from the field.  Alonzo shot 83% from the field, shot 100% from the free throw line, grabbed 3 rebounds, picked up a steal and dropped off an assist.

4)      Plainfield – Senior Denzel Christian 6’6” – {ER-11}
DC shot 50% from the field, was perfect from the foul line, grabbed 2 rebounds and picked up a steal

5)      Linden – Sophomore Joshua Carter 6’2” – {ER-11}
One of the top sophomore guards in the state shot 50% from beyond the arc.  Carter also grabbed 3 rebounds and rejected 1 shot attempt.  Carter only committed 1 turnover for the entire game.

Plainfield vs Columbia Game


A Fanatic Summation of the Plainfield vs. Columbia Game

Playing their second game in as many nights, Plainfield overcame weary legs to defeat Columbia 65-62 in overtime.

Steals – Advantage (Columbia)
Columbia picked up 17 steals while Plainfield picked up 4.  This gave Columbia an extra 13 possessions over Plainfield. 

Rebounds – Advantage (Plainfield)
Plainfield grabbed 44 rebounds compared to Columbia’s 33 rebounds.

3-point Shooting – Advantage (Columbia)
Columbia converted 7 treys while Plainfield converted 5 treys.  This gave Columbia a 6-point advantage.

Turnovers – Advantage (Columbia)
Columbia committed 11 turnovers compared to Plainfield’s 24.  This gave Columbia a 13-possesion advantage.

Free Throw Shooting – Advantage (Columbia)
Columbia connected on 17 free throws compared to Plainfield’s 10.  This gave Columbia a 7-point advantage.

 
When it came down to it, every point, every possession, and every foul was critical down the stretch.  Up until this point Columbia held a 4-1 advantage in statistical categories and a 13-point advantage.  So where did the Cardinals win this game? 

Assists – Advantage (Plainfield)
Plainfield dished out 12 assists while Columbia dished out 5 assists.  Najee Lucky led Plainfield with a game high 4 assists.

Points in the Paint – Advantage (Plainfield)
Plainfield converted 20 field goals below the arc compared to 12 by Columbia.  This gave Plainfield a 16-point advantage and overcame Columbia’s advantage in shooting beyond the arc and from the free throw line.

Block Shots – Advantage (Plainfield)
Plainfield rejected 10 shot attempts while Columbia rejected 0.  Plainfield was able to turn away 20 potential points for Columbia.

1)      Plainfield - Sophomore Ahmad Baker 6’8” – {ER-24}
Ahmad filled up the stat sheet.  Ahmad shot 57% from the floor, grabbed a game high 13 rebounds, picked up 1 steal, dropped off 2 assists and rejected a game high tying 4 shot attempts (Plainfield Jachai Simmons also with 4 rejections).

2)      Plainfield – Senior Denzel Christian 6’6” – {ER-23}
The four-year varsity player scored a game high 20 points.  DC completed the double double performance by grabbing 10 rebounds.  To complete his efficient night, Denzel dropped off 2 assists, rejected 2 shot attempts and committed only 1 turnover for the entire game.

3)      Columbia – Sophomore Mike Runcie 6’2” – {ER-17}
Mike fouling out proved to be the difference for Columbia in overtime.  Mike shot 50% from beyond the arc and was perfect from the foul line to score a team high 15 points.  Mike also grabbed 3 rebounds, picked up a game high 5 steals and dropped off a team high 3 assists.

4)      Plainfield – Junior Christian Cook 6’1” – {ER-16}
Christian is no Cook because he always burn it up from deep.  Cook was a perfect 3 of 3 from deep to score 14 points.  Christian also grabbed 6 rebounds and picked up a steal.

5)      Columbia – Junior Deion Robert 6’2” – {ER-15}
Deion was perfect from 3-point range and was perfect from the foul line.  Deion gave a balance effort by grabbing 4 rebounds, picking up 4 steals and dropping off an assist.


Other note worthy performances

Plainfield – Sophomore Jachai Simmons 6’6” – {ER-14}
Simmons may not be aware of his ability.  The last high school ball player the Cardinal Fanatic saw play every position on the floor, Kyle Anderson (currently at UCLA), was last years Star Ledger Player of the Year.  Not putting the young Simmons in that category but it is up to him to live up to the potential.  Well Simmons gave the Cardinal Fanatic a slight look at his versatility.  Simmons played all 5 positions, grabbed 7 rebounds, dropped off 2 assists, and rejected a game high tying 4 shot attempts.

Columbia – Senior Robert Martin 6’4” – {ER-13}
Martin shot 50% from beyond the arc and 80% from the free throw line.  Martin grabbed a team high 8 rebounds and picked up 2 steals.  Martin only committed 1 turnover for the entire game.

Columbia – Enoch Motachwa 6’3” – {ER-10}
Enoch used his girth to frustrate the Cardinals big men.  Enoch grabbed 7 rebounds and did not commit a turnover for the entire game.

Plainfield vs Roselle Catholic


A Fanatic Summation of the Plainfield vs. Roselle Catholic Game

 
Plainfield came up short with the upset over one of the top teams in the state in Roselle Catholic.  Roselle Catholic literally scratched and chipped away at a 19-point deficit late in the 3rd period to pull off the remarkable comeback and hold off Plainfield for the 69-67 victory

Steals – Advantage (Roselle Catholic)
Roselle Catholic picked up 9 steals while Plainfield picked up 6.  Plainfield’s Denzel Johnson had a game high 3 steals.

Assists – Advantage (Plainfield)
Plainfield dished out 10 assists while Roselle Catholic dished out 7 assists.  Jordan Sears led Plainfield with 3 assists.

Rebounds – Advantage (Plainfield)
Plainfield grabbed 27 rebounds compared to Roselle Catholic’s 20 rebounds.

3-point Shooting – Even
Both teams connected on 4 3-point makes.  Malachai Richardson led Roselle Catholic with 2 makes from beyond the arc.

Plainfield converted 21 field goals below the arc compared to 20 by Roselle Catholic.

Although Plainfield shot a respectable 72% from the free throw line, it was the difference in the amount of attempts that eventually help Roselle Catholic pull out the victory.  Roselle Catholic had an 11 free throw attempt advantage over Plainfield.  Coaches always get heated when the free throw attempt disparity is of a disproportional amount.  Roselle Catholic did not shoot well from the free throw line but made 17 free throw attempts (59%) compared to Plainfield’s 13.  The 4-point differential was enough for the 2-point victory for Roselle Catholic.

1)      Roselle Catholic - Senior Tyler Roberson 6’10” – {ER-26}
Tyler carried Roselle through their early game slump.  Tyler scored a game high 26 points shooting 69% from the floor.  The future Orangeman grabbed a team high 7 rebounds, picked up 1 steal and rejected a game high 4 shot attempts.

2)      Plainfield – Senior Wade Brown 6’1” – {ER-25}
Wade WB Brown had his best game of his career.  WB dropped a team high 23 points shooting 56% from below the arc, a sizzling hot 75% from 3-point land and a solid 80% from the free-throw line.  The 6’1” guard showed off his leaping ability grabbing a game high 8 rebounds, picking up a steal and dropping off 2 assists.

3)      Roselle Catholic – Senior Hakim Saintil 6’2” – {ER-23}
Hakim connected on 50% of his shots below the arc and shot 80% from the free-throw line to score 19 points.  Saintil was no saint as he picked the pockets of Plainfield for a game high tying 3 steals (Malachai Richardson also with 3 steals), grabbed 3 rebounds and dropped off a game high 4 assists.

4)      Plainfield – Senior Denzel Christian 6’6” – {ER-15}
Denzel grabbed 2 rebounds, picked up a team high tying 2 steals (Jordan Sears also with 2 steals), picked up 2 assists and rejected a team high 2 shot attempts.

5)      Roselle Catholic – Freshman Asante Gist 5’11” – {ER-12}
Asante may be one of the most talented freshman guards in the state of New Jersey.  Asante scored 11 points on 5 of 5 shooting from below the arc.  Asante also grabbed a rebound, a steal and dished out an assist.  Gist only committed 1 turnover for the entire game from his guard position.

Other note worthy performances

Plainfield – Sophomore Jachai Simmons 6’6” – {ER-11}
Jachai shot 50% from beyond the arc, grabbed 3 rebounds, picked up a steal and dished out 2 assists.  Simmons only committed 1 turnover for the entire game.

Plainfield – Junior Najee Lucky 5’10” – {ER-11}
Lucky was perfect with his shooting from the field from below the arc and was perfect from the foul line.  Lucky also grabbed 2 rebounds.

Plainfield vs Newark Central


A Fanatic Summation of the Plainfield vs. Central Game

 
A hot shooting Savage demolished Plainfield.  Let’s clarify that, a hot shooting Keywon Savage led Central to a 73 – 40 annihilation of Plainfield.

 
Block Shots – Advantage (Plainfield)
Plainfield rejected 5 shot attempts compared to Centrals 3 rejections.

Rebounds – Advantage (Central)
Central grabbed 26 rebounds compared to Plainfield’s 25 rebounds.

The Cardinals could only mustard up on one statistical category as Central dominated on nearly every aspect of the game.

Assists – Advantage (Central)
Central dished out 14 assists while Plainfield dished out 7 assists. JaQue Wilson dished out a team high tying 2 assists for Plainfield.

3-point Shooting – Advantage (Central)
Central connected on 7 treys while Plainfield connected on 4.  This gave Central a 9-point advantage.

Steals – Advantage (Central)
Central picked up 15 steals while Plainfield picked up 14.  Denzel Johnson led Plainfield with a team high 3 steals.

Turnovers – Advantage (Central)
Central committed 11 turnovers compared to Plainfield’s 17.

Free Throw Shooting – Advantage (Central)
Central converted 16 free throws compared to Plainfield’s 8.  This gave Central an 8-point advantage.  This increased Centrals point advantage to 17-points.

Points in the Paint – Advantage (Central)
Central converted 18 field goals below the arc while Plainfield converted 10 field goals below the arc.  This gave Central a 16-point advantage in Points in the Paint.  Combined with the other point advantage points for Central we have our total deficit of 33.

1)      Central - Junior Keywon Savage 6’3” – {ER-36}
There was a Savage in Plainfield on the prowl.  Keywon Savage that is, as he was beasting on my Cardinals.  Savage was a planet Mercury hot.  Savage shot 60% from below the arc, shot a call the fire brigade 86% from beyond the arc and 100% from the free throw line to score a game high 25 points.  Kewyon “The Beast” Savage also ripped down 6 boards, picked up 2 steals and dropped off a game high tying 4 assists (Nasir Farmer and Yasim Smith of Central also had 4 assists).  Kewyon completed one of the best efficiency performances of the year by having an impressive 4:1 assist to turnover ratio.

2)      Central – Senior Nasir Farmer 6’1” – {ER-23}
Yes there was a Farmer in the house because he ploughed right over my Cardinals.  Nasir shot 75% from below the arc and 80% from the free throw line to score in double digits for the game.  Farmer also grabbed 3 rebounds, picked up a game high 7 steals and dished out a game high tying 4 assists.

3)      Plainfield – Sophomore Jachai Simmons 6’6” – {ER-17}
Jachai was perfect from below the arc and from the free throw line to score a team high tying 11 points (Christian Cook also scored 11 points for the Cardinals).  Jachai grabbed 4 rebounds, dished out a team high tying 2 assists and rejected a game high tying 2 shot attempts (Plainfield’s Jordan Sears also with 2 rejections).

4)      Central – Senior Yasim Smith 6’0” – {ER-14}
Yasim shot 60% from below the arc and 75% from the free throw line to score 12 points.  Smith also grabbed 2 rebounds, picked up 2 steals and dropped off a game high tying 4 assists.

5)      Central – Senior Taji Williams 6’4” – {ER-14}
Taji shot 57% from below the arc and 75% from the free throw line to score 11 points. Taji grabbed a game high tying 9 rebounds (Jordan Sears of Plainfield also with 9 rebounds), dished out an assist and rejected 1 shot attempt.

Central – Senior Nijaron Palmer 6’4” – {ER-11}
Palmer was perfect from the field, grabbed 2 rebounds and rejected 1 shot attempt.  Nijaron had an efficient night by committing 0 turnovers for the entire game.

Plainfield – Junior Jordan Sears 6’5” – {ER-10}
Jordan shot 60% from the field, grabbed a game high tying 9 rebounds, picked up a steal and rejected a game high tying 2 shot attempts.
