Cranford’s Sean Trotter and Joseph Papendera combined for 4 treys to help keep the Cougars in the game. Cranford converted 6 3-pointers while Plainfield converted 3.

Where did the Cardinals win this game? Bench support and rebounds! Multiple reserves played a part in sparking the Cardinals to the victory. Phillip Tharpe came up big when the Cardinals were in a shooting slump by connecting on 2 treys that ignited the Card’s for the rest of the game. Denzel Christian was force in the middle helping the Cards to a 45 rebound night. Chad Lewis also gave help on the boards while the speedy Delano Mullings and the long Vaughn Anderson provided the defensive effort to slow down the hot shooting Cougars.

Cardinal Fanatic Efficient 5

1) Plainfield – Junior Justin Sears 6’8” {ER-39}
Sears earned a career high ER with another one of his patented double-double performance. Sears scored the second highest ever ER by dropping a game high 20 points connecting at a 78% clip. Justin also had a game high 18 rebounds to go along with his game high 3 assists.

2) Plainfield – Sophomore Denzel Christian 6’6” {ER-21}
Denzel earned his 2nd top 5 ER performance of the season. Denzel shot at a 67% clip to earn 9 points for the game. Denzel also grabbed 9 rebounds while committing no turnovers for the entire game.

3) Plainfield – Senior Allen Brown 6’0” {ER-10}
Lock “em Down” Brown defensive effort does not show up in the box score. The Senior provided the defensive leadership to slow down the hot 3-point shooting of the Cougars. Brown also was perfect from the floor connecting for 8 points. Brown committed only 1 turnover from his guard position for the entire game.

4) Cranford – Sophomore Reginald Green 6’4” {ER-9}
Green was the only other scorer (Justin Sears) to score in double figures. The sophomore came off the bench to spark the Cougars to play a competitive game. Green shot 54% from the floor to score a team high15 points. Green also grabbed a team high tying 5 rebounds (Sean Trotter and Bryan Fitzsimmons also with 5 rebounds).

5) Cranford – Senior Sean Trotter 6’0” {ER-8}
Trotter’s 40% shooting from behind the arc kept the game interesting. Trotter scored 9 points and also grabbed a team high tying 5 rebounds.

A Fanatic Summation of the Plainfield vs Pocono Mountain West Game

Plainfield won the field goals made comparison by +2. Plainfield converted 19 field goals to Pocono Mountain West’s 17. Pocono Mountain West’s 7’0” center, Kevin Anema had a lot to do with keeping the field goals made so close. His presence in the middle forced the Cardinals to take many difficult shots. The Cardinals were a +2 in the 3-point conversion comparison. Plainfield converted 6 3-pointers while Pocono Mountain West converted 4.

Where did the Cardinals win this game? Balance, Balance, and more Balance! Every player that touched the floor for the Cardinals had an impact. The 5 starters, Justin Sears, Dii’Jon Allen-Jordan, Sekou Harris, Jahmal Lane, and Allen Brown all scored in double digits to lead a well balanced attack while Denzel Christian, Phillip Tharpe, Vaughn Anderson and Chad Lewis gave effective productive support off the bench. Actually, the Cardinals are averaging a minimal of 3 players in double digits in nearly all of their games. Without this balance attack, the hot shooting Tynell Fortune and the 7’0” Kevin Anema would have pulled out the victory for Pocono Mt. West.

Cardinal Fanatic Efficient 5

1) Pocono Mt. West – Senior Tynell Fortune 5’11” {ER-31}
Tynell “Bombs Away” Fortune put on a shooting exhibition from the free throw line and from behind the arc. The Cardinal Fanatic scouting report new Tynell was a high scorer but his exhibition on Saturday brought back bad memories of Nichols of Cherokee in last years State Championship. The only difference Fortune is a much better shooter. Fortune connected on 4 out of 5 treys from well beyond 23 feet to an astonished the Cardinal crowd. Fortune also connected on 10 out of 11 free throws to lead all scorers in the game with 28 points. Fortune also led the Panthers in rebounds (6) and assists (3).

2) Plainfield – Junior Justin Sears 6’8” {ER-31}
Mr. Double-Double was at it again. Sears seems to thrive off of big men. He has a 17 rebound performance against the #1 school in the nation which featured 3 players 6'-8” or bigger. Sears had a 17 rebound effort against the 6’10” Kevin Ferguson of Governor Livingston. Now Sears is making 17 rebounds an average night. Justin grabbed a game high 17 rebounds, scored 12 points on 71% shooting from the floor, dropped 3 assists, and rejected 3 shot attempts.

3) Plainfield – Junior Dii’Jon Allen-Jordan 6’6” {ER-21}
Dii’Jon 2 handed stuff off of a Sears behind the back assist had the Cardinal fans off their feet. Dii’Jon and Sears teamed up to hold down the big man for the Panthers. Dii’Jon gave a balance attack as he scored 14 points and grabbed 7 rebounds. He also picked up 2 steals, dropped 2 assists, and rejected a game high 5 shot attempts.

4) Plainfield – Senior Allen Brown 6’0” {ER-21}
If it was not for “Lock em Down” Brown ball denial on Tynell Fortune, Fortune could have easily exploded for 40+ points. Once Tynell gave up the ball he did not touch it any more in the Panthers offensive sets. Most of Tynell points came from the foul line or 3 point conversions that were from Reggie Miller area codes. But Allen Brown also was extremely efficient on the offensive side of the ball. Allen switched up his defensive nick name to “Down Town” Brown by converting 67% of his 3 point attempts and was perfect from below the arc to give him 11 points for the game. Brown also picked up 3 steals and dropped a game high tying 4 assists (Sekou Harris & Jahmal Lane also with 4 assists).

5) Plainfield – Junior Sekou Harris 6’0” {ER-19}
Sekou “Ice” Harris continues to ice games for the Cardinals. Sekou scored a team high 21 points, which 14 points came in the final period. Sekou was as cool as a heart surgeon in the middle of a war zone. Sekou helped the Cardinals pull away in the final period by connecting on 10 out of 11 free throws (92%). Harris also grabbed 3 rebounds, picked up a game high 5 steals, and dropped a game high tying 4 assists

A Fanatic Summartion of the Plainfield vs Westfield Game

Plainfield won the field goals made comparison by +9. Plainfield converted 17 field goals to Westfield’s 8. This is the 2nd consecutive game holding opponents to single digits field goals made. The Cardinals were a +2 in the 3-point conversion comparison. Plainfield converted 4 3-pointers while Westfield converted 2.

Where did the Cardinals win this game? Defense Defense and more Defense! Without applying a full court press, the Cardinals played an in your face Mike Price style defense against the Blue Devils. This was missing from the 1st meeting between the two where Westfield lost by only 7 points with a chance to win. This game was different. The Cardinals allowed the Blue Devils only 2 points in the first 9 ½ minutes of the game. The Cardinals grabbed 33 boards, picked up 14 steals, and (the block party continues) rejected 8 shots to solidify their lock down defense.

Cardinal Fanatic Efficient 5

1) Plainfield – Junior Dii’Jon Allen-Jordan 6’6” {ER-18}
Dii’Jon earns his 2nd consecutive ER player of the game. Dii’Jon scored 8 points, grabbed 5 rebounds, was perfect from the foul line (4-4), picked up a game high 4 steals, and had a game high 4 rejections.

2) Plainfield – Junior Justin Sears 6’8” {ER-18}
Justin scored 7 points on 60% shooting from the floor. Justin had a game high 9 rebounds, 2 steals, and 3 rejections

3) Plainfield – Senior Vaughn Anderson 6’3” {ER-13}
Since Vaughn was forced into action several games ago, his impact has been positive for the Cardinals. His long arms and crafty ball handling has helped the Cardinals apply pressure on defense and relieve pressure from opponents full court press. Vaughn scored a career and game high 13 points on 57% shooting from the field, and 50% shooting from 3-point land. Anderson also grabbed 6 rebounds.

4) Westfield – Senior T. Younger 6’0” {ER-13}
Younger led the Blue Devils in scoring with 12 points on 50% shooting from the floor. Younger seemed to adjust to the skin tight defense the Cardinals applied by connecting on 3 consecutive shot attempts including 1 from beyond the 3-point line. Younger also had 3 rebounds and 2 steals while only committing 1 turnover.

5) Plainfield – Junior Jahmal Lane 6’3” {ER-12}
Jahmal continues to be Mr. Steady as he lets the game come to him. Lane was one of only 3 players to score in double digits as he tallied 10 points for the contest. Lane also grabbed 5 rebounds, had 2 steals and rejected 1 shot attempt.

A Fanatic Summation of the Plainfield vs Ridge Game

Plainfield won the field goals made comparison by +13. Plainfield converted 21 field goals to Ridge’s 8. With such a discrepancy one would think that the Cardinals blew the Red Devils out of the gym. Ridge made up the difference with their 3-point conversions. The Cardinals were a -7 in the 3-point conversion comparison. Ridge shot a mild 48% from behind the arc connecting on 10 3-pointers. The Cardinals converted 3.

Where did the Cardinals win this game? With Ridge seemingly knocking down everything from behind the arc and shooting an efficient 81% from the free throw line, how could the Red Devils loose this game? There are several answers to that question with one being in the paint section of Sears, especially the interior paint. Justin Sears went over to the household section of the store and picked up some Windex to wipe the glass clean. Sears dominated the boards grabbing the few missed shots Ridge attempted. With the music blasting at the Ridge High School Gymnasium, this must have waked up the original “Block Party” DJ’s of Jahmal Lane, Sears, and Dii’Jon Allen-Jordan. The three rejector specialist invited Chad Lewis, Sekou Harris, Allen Brown, and the youngest guy on the block, 6’6” Denzel Christian to the party. The Cardinals had 6 players with at least one rejection to get this party started right. These timely rejections kept the Cardinals in the game. The last department was the gift department. The Card’s were in the spirit of giving and dished out a season high 16 assists. Lane and Harris combined for 13 assists against a physical zone defense. The majority of these assists came when it was needed most, in the final period and overtime.

Cardinal Fanatic Efficient 5

1) Plainfield – Junior Dii’Jon Allen-Jordan 6’6” {ER-25}
Dii’Jon was one of 4 Cardinals to score in double figures. But the timeliness of his field goal conversions and defensive effort on the wing and in the paint was the most valuable for the Cardinals to eek out the overtime victory. Dii’Jon scored a team high 20 points on 69% shooting from the field. Dii’Jon became the go to guy in final minutes and the Cardinal team mates fully obliged by going to the well. Dii’Jon also grabbed 6 rebounds and picked up a game high tying 3 steals (Sekou Harris also with 3 steals). Dii’Jon did not commit a single turnover for the entire game including overtime.

2) Ridge – Junior Dylan Kerwin 6’4” {ER-24}
I thought Madlinger “The Mad Bomber” was still attending Ridge! But it was actually a 2 headed monster that was bombing away. The 2 headed monsters were the Kerwin brothers. The identical twins put on a shooting exhibition that the graduated Madlinger would be proud of. Dylan “The Slinger” Kerwin shot a hot 56% from behind the arc dropping 21 points for the game. Dylan was perfect from the foul line shooting 4-4, grabbed 3 rebounds and dished out a team high tying 3 assists (Erick Thomas also with 3 assists). Dylan was very efficient with the rock by committing no turnovers for the game including overtime. Dylan completed the game with a 3-0 assist to turnover ratio to go with his perfect foul shooting and impressive shooting percentage from deep.

3) Plainfield – Junior Jahmal Lane 6’3” {ER-21}
Jahmal is as steady as it goes. It is unfair to only measure Jahmal on points score. One of the leading career rejectors in the 21st century for Plainfield basketball, the long arm bandit continues to expand his game. Lane, a 3-year varsity player, originally played primarily in the paint but this year he has surprised the experts on his expanded game. Lane missed being the 5th Cardinal in double figure by 1 point. Lane shot 75% from the floor, 75% from the free throw line, grabbed 4 rebounds, rejected one shot, and dropped off a game high 7 assists.

4) Ridge – Junior Jack Kerwin 6’4” {ER-20}
Jack “The Swisher” Kerwin was even more accurate from behind the arc. The twins not only fight over the last cookie in the jar but also fight over who can be the most accurate flinging the rock from deep! With Dylan “The Slinger” hitting at a 56% clip from deep, Jack upped the ante on his twin by connecting on a blazing 83% accuracy. Jack finished as the game high scorer with 23 points, 2 rebounds, 2 assists, and 2 steals.
***
5) Plainfield – Junior Justin Sears 6’8” {ER-20}
Justin continues to tally up the “Double-Double” statistical chart. Sears is starting to be in the conversation amongst the great Cardinal’s past big men of the last 40+ years. Mr. “Double-Double” scored 13 points on 67% shooting from the floor, grabbed a game high 11 rebounds, picked up 1 steal, and rejected a game high 2 shot attempts.

A Fanatic Summation of the Governor Livingston vs Plainfield Game

Plainfield won the field goals made comparison by +5. Plainfield converted 22 field goals to Governor Livingston's 17. Both teams were even with 3-points made. Both teams converted 2 3-pointers.

Where did the Cardinals win this game? The Cardinals lost only their 2nd rebounding battle this season. This was much in cause to 6'10" senior Kevin Ferguson of Governor Livingston. His length posed a lot of problems and fortified the Governor Livingston's zone defense. But the Cardinals won this game on converting off of forced turnovers. The Cards had a whopping 16 steals and were able to convert on over 90% of them from either field goals or from the foul line. Justin Seas and Dii'Jon Allen-Jordan was also a factor in the critical 4th period. Both Justin and Dii'Jon contained Ferguson and won the rebounding battle when it was needed the most.

Cardinal Famatic Efficient 5

1) Plainfield - Junior Justin Sears 6'8" {ER-38}*
Various players have come up big for the Cardinals this season. It was Justin's turn to give a great performance. Justin gave his career best performance in front of scouts from Princeton and Boston University against one of the best big men in the county, Governor Livingston's 6'10" Kevin Ferguson. Sears nearly earned his patented "Double-Double" in the 4th period alone. During the final 8 minute stretch Sears grabbed 10 rebounds and scored 7 crucial points. Sears completed the game shooting 56% from the floor with a game high 22 points and a game high 17 rebounds. Sears also had 4 steals and dished 1 assist. All this was done with only 1 turnover committed.

2) Governor Livingston - Senior Kevin Ferguson 6'10" {ER-24}
Kevin surprised the Cardinals faithful with his fluidity around the basket. With a wing span just short of a seven footer, Ferguson caused multiple problems for the Cardinals on both ends of the floor. Kevin scored a team high tying 15 points on 55% shooting from the floor. Kevin also had a team high 13 rebounds,, dropped 2 assists, and 1 rejection to lead the Highlanders to the near upset.

3) Plainfield - Junior Sekou Harris 6'0" {ER-20}
Sekou came up clutch in the final period as he connected on 6 for 6 free throws to ice the game. Sekou finished the game shooting a perfect 7-7 from the free throw line. Along with his 60% shooting from the field, Sekou totaled 16 points, 2 steals, and a game high 5 assists. Harris played an efficient game with a 5-2 assist to turnover ratio.

4) Plainfield - Junior Dii'Jon Allen-Jordan 6'5" {ER-17}
Dii'Jon provided the backup support for Justin Sears on the long Kevin Ferguson. Dii'Jon scored an efficient 12 points, grabbed 3 rebounds, 3 steals, 1 assist, and a game high 2 rejections which was all done while committing 0 turnovers.

5) Governor Livingston - Senior Brendan Dilandro 6'4" {ER-15}
Dilandro scored 8 points but his Charles Oakley like contributions had the Highlanders primed for the upset. Brendan connected at an 80% clip from the field, grabbed 7 rebounds, and committed only 1 turnover to give a very good efficient performance.

*Breaks a season high set by Jahmal Lane {31}. This is the 2nd best ER performance in 2 years of computation. Tyrone Johnson's {ER-36} was previously the 2nd highest ranking in 2 years.

St. Patrick graduate and arguably the best guard in the NCAA, Kyrie Irving, holds the all time ER record of 40.

A Fanatic Summation of the St. Patrick vs Plainfield Game

St. Patrick converted 20 shots below the arc to Plainfield's 11. St. Pat's connected on 6 3-point shots while the Cardinals converted 2.

Where did the Cardinals loose this game? Poor shooting and turnovers. The Cardinals shot poorly against the Celtics. The Celtics defensive effort had a lot to do with the inaccurate shooting by the Cards. St. Pat's guards harassed the Cardinal play makers and the length of the Celtics was much longer, much bigger, and much taller. With a front court that adds up to 20'3" of players, it was extremely difficult for the Cards to get off any clean shot attempts in the paint. 6'10" Dakari Johnson (#1 freshman in the nation), 6'9" Austin Colbert (top ten sophomore in the nation), and the beast from the east, 6'8" Michael Gilchrist were active and focuses on taking away one of the Cardinals strength's, the interior paint. The Cards negative 10 on the turnover ratio did not help the matter either. All mentioned added up to a perfect recipe of domination by the nationally ranked and #1 team in the state.

Cardinal Fanatic Efficient 5

1) St. Patrick - Senior Michael Gilchrist 6'8" {ER-21}
The 4 year varsity player is considered the best player in the nation by many publications. Kentucky has landed the talents of Michael who may be a one and done player at the collegiate level. His athletic ability is exceptional. Quickness, leaping ability, and strength combined with a high basketball IQ = A BEAST!!! Michael dropped 12 points on 67% shooting below the arc, connected on 1 of 1 from beyond the arc, grabbed 5 rebounds, 3 steals, and dished 3 assists all while committing 0 turnovers.

2) Plainfield - Junior Jahmal Lane 6'3" {ER-16}
Jahmal is playing his most consistent stretch of basketball in his varsity career. Lane has been quietly filling up the stat sheets while minimizing mistakes. The 3 year varsity player is showing that one of his strength's is his experience. Lane connected at an 80% clip below the arc, connected on 1 of 2 3-point attempts, grabbed 4 boards, and swatted 2 shots against a much bigger opponent. Lane scored a team high 12 points.

3) St. Patrick - Freshman Dakari Johnson 6'10" {ER-16}
Dakari is one of the most highly publicized freshman in the nation. At 6'10" and still growing, Dakari has the skill set of a season varsity player. Dakari was perfect from the floor to net 6 points. But his other contributions were significant. His team high 9 rebounds and game high 4 rejections helped the Celtics seal the interior paint.

4) St. Patrick - Senior Derrick Gordon 6'3" {ER-14}
Derrick comes from a pure basketball pedigree. Father, Mike Sr. and older brother Mike Jr. were both exceptional point guards for Plainfield. Derrick who went to St. Pat's via Emerson and Maxson School, had the pedal to the metal early in the game as he started off with 9 points in a blink of an eye. Derrick scored 13 points on 55% shooting from the floor and grabbed 6 rebounds. Derrick played Mr. Efficient from his guard position by having a 3 to 1 turnover ratio.

5) Plainfield - Junior Justin Sears 6'8" {ER-14}
Justin had a tall order to fill. Sears will probably only see this kind of size on the collegiate level. Even though the Celtics had the height advantage amongst several players, Sears battled admirably as he grabbed a game high 17 rebounds. Mr. Double-Double missed his pattened stat by 2 points. Sears also had 2 rejections.

A Fanatic Summation of the Plainfield vs Piscataway Game

Plainfield converted 23 shots below the arc to Piscataway's 19. Both teams connected on 3 three-point shots.

Where did the Cardinals win this game? The interior paint. The Cardinals attacked the basket which gave Plainfield 20 free throws made compared to Piscataway's 7 made free throws. The Cardinals again won the battle of the boards 28-21 and total rejections (6-1). The Cardinals were better than their season average in the turnover department. Vaughn Anderson, played effective minutes for the second game in a row and seems to be the other ball handler for pressure situations. Chad Lewis reinforced the middle late in the game. Phillip "The Microwave" Tharpe came off the bench in the 4th period to score 8 points in less than 8 minutes.

Cardinal Fanatic 5

1) Plainfield - Junior Jahmal Lane 6'3" {ER-23}
The 3rd year varsity player has been one of the most consistent players this year. Jahmal scored 13 points on 100% shooting from the floor below the arc and 75% shooting from the foul line. Jahmal also grabbed 4 rebounds, a game high 3 steals, 1 assist and 1 rejection. Lane committed 0 turnovers for the game.

2) Plainfield - Junior Justin Sears 6'8" {ER-22}
Justin "Double-Double" Sears continues his steady performance. In the first 9 games of the season Justin has earned a double-double in 6 of them. One game he missed a double-double by 1 and another by 3 rebounds. Justin scored 14 points on 71% shooting from the floor. Justin also grabbed a game high 10 rebounds and rejected 2 shot attempts. Sears only committed 2 turnovers for the game.

3) Piscataway - Junior Greg Davis 6'3" {ER-19}
Davis scored a game high 19 points. Davis came off the bench and immediately was an impact knocking down 2 consecutive 3's and a deep 2-point jump shot. Davis shot 71% below the arc on mostly jump shots and connected for a 50% clip from beyond the 3-point line. Greg also grabbed a team high tying 4 rebounds.

4) Plainfield - Junior Sekou Harris 6'0" {ER-18}
If Sekou is not electrifying the crowd with his ball handling, he is pulling out a page from the Anthony "AB" Baskerville any where on the court is a good shot imitation. Sekou connected on several three's from plus 23 feet with 50% accuracy. Sekou scored a team high 18 points and also shot an efficient 57% below the 3-point line. Harris also dropped 4 assists while only committing 2 turnovers. Sekou also had 2 steals and grabbed 2 rebounds.

5) Piscataway - Tajae Sharpe 6'2" {ER-12}
Tajae was the second leading scorer for the Chiefs. Tajae scored 12 points and grabbed a team high tying 4 rebounds.

Fanatic Summation of the Plainfield vs Union Game

Plainfield converted 17 shots below the arc to Union's 10. Union made up ground by connecting 6 3-point shots to Plainfield's 2.

Where did the Cardinals nearly loose this game? Union starting 5 can all shoot the rock. They converted 40% of their 3- point attempts and shot a decent 71% from the free throw line. The Cardinals played them tough with the in your face man to man defense. I believe Union countered this at half time but the Cardinals went to a zone. Union fully obliged by busting the Cards out of their zone defense. Thanks to Chris Foreman (4 for 9) and Chicoziem Ikwuegbu (2 for 4) from behind the arc, the twin zone busters made a remarkable come back. The absence of Dii'Jon "It's not just mustard" Allen-Jordan may have affected both ends of the floor when the Cardinals needed him most.

Where did the Cardinals win this game? Defense - Defense - Defense
The Cardinals had 7 rejections to Union's 3. The Cardinals cleaned more windows as they swiped 28 boards off the glass to Union's 22. The Cardinals improved foul shooting (71%) was much needed. Finally, the great play of Vaughn Anderson. The senior reserve was forced into action with the absence of Dii'Jon. Vaughn gave a fine effort on both ends of the floor to help lift the Cardinals to victory.

Cardinal Fanatic Efficient 5

1) Plainfield - Junior Justin Sears 6'8" {ER-21}
Sears is making any game less than a double-double sub par. Justin rebounded from the St. Anthony's game to drop 11 points on 57% shooting from the floor and just missed a double-double by 1 rebound. Sears also rejected a game high tying 3 shots and dropped 4 assists.

2) Plainfield - Senior Allen Brown 6'0" {ER-16}
Lock "em" Down Brown was instrumental in slowing down the Farmers in the opening period where Union only connected on 1 field goal from the floor. Brown's defense on the Farmers hot shooting Chris Foreman in the finals seconds was big. Brown gave one of his best performances as the senior stepped up for the Cardinals. Allen shot an efficient 67% from the floor on 4 of 6 shooting and knocked down 75% of his free throws (3 for 4). Brown dropped a team high tying 11 points while committing 0 turnovers from his guard position. Allen also had 3 steals to go with his all around performance.

3) Union - Senior Chris Foreman 6'0" {ER-15}
Chris shot 44% from beyond the arc and was perfect from the charity line to score a game high 14 points. Chris also grabbed 4 rebounds and dished out 2 assists.

4) Union - Senior Chicoziem "Doz" Ikwuegbu 6'2" {ER-13}
Doz supplemented Chris from the outside by shooting 50% from beyond the arc and shooting perfect from the charity line. Doz also had a game high 4 steals, grabbed 2 boards, and dropped 4 assists. Doz had a 4-1 assist to turnover ratio for the game from the guard position.

5) Union - Senior Nana Ansah 6'0" {ER-12}
Nana shot 60% from the floor and was also perfect from the line to score 8 points. Nana grabbed 4 boards while committing only 1 turnover.

Fanatic Summation of the Plainfield vs St. Anthony's Game

Plainfield converted 13 shots below the arc to St. Anthony’s 19. Plainfield and St. Anthony’s connected on 4 3-point conversions each.

Where did the Cardinals loose this game? The glass the glass the glass!!! St. Anthony’s stole the Windex cleaner and used basic fundamental position and boxing out and gave the Cardinals their first game of the season where they did not win the rebounding battle. St. Anthony’s grabbed 25 rebounds to Plainfield’s 17. This advantage had a direct correlation to St. Anthony’s dropping 6 more conversions (the difference in the game).

Surprisingly, the Cardinals and Friars were nearly even in every category other than 2 point conversions and rebounds. The turnovers, assists, rejections, and free throws made were all nearly identical.

In contrast, the Friars could have lost this game from the free throw line where they only shot 50%. The Cardinals shot a season high 90% hitting 9 out of 10 free throws.

Another striking difference in the game was the amount of fouls called. The Friars only committed 9 team fouls while the Cardinals doubled that with a technical foul to throw in.

Cardinal Fanatic Efficient 5

1) Plainfield – Junior Dii’Jon Allen-Jordan 6’5” {ER-25}
Dii’Jon had the Cardinals primed for the upset. Dii’Jon scored a team high 15 points connecting on 56% shooting from the floor and 100% shooting (5 for 5) from the free throw line. Dii’Jon also grabbed a team high 5 rebounds, snatched 3 steals, and only committed 1 turnover against one of the best defensive teams in the state.

2) St. Anthony’s – Senior Myles Mack 5’11” {ER-23}
The Rutgers bound shooting/point guard carried the Friars to victory. Mack scored a game high 23 points. Mack connected on 67% shooting below the arc, 50% shooting from beyond the arc, had a game high 5 steals, 3 assists, all while only committing one turnover from the guard position.

3) St. Anthony’s – Senior Lucky Jones 6’6” {ER-22}
Jones was Lucky on the spot. Jones used his experience and muscular statue to be in the right spot at the right time to frustrate the Cardinal big men by positioning and boxing out. Lucky dropped 17 points shooting 80% from the floor. Jones also grabbed 5 rebounds, had 4 steals, and only committed 1 turnover.

4) Plainfield – Junior Jahmal Lane 6’3” {ER-15}
Jahmal played a very balance game connecting for 11 points. Lane connected on 80% of his free throws, grabbed 4 rebounds, dropped 4 assists, and had 1 rejection.

5) St. Anthony’s - Senior Jordan Quick 6’1” {ER-13}
Jordan only scored 2 points but that does not tell the story of how his input was strategic for the Friars to grab control of this game. Hurley switching Quick to the point proved to be pivotal. Jordan hit his only shot below the arc but he dropped a game high 8 assists feeding Mack for his 3 point barrage and dishing to Lucky Jones for high percentage shots.
