Top Efficiency Performances Preview of the Last 2 Seasons....

We were hit with Hurricane Sandy which affected the Cardinal Fanatic birds nest.  The Cardinal Fanatic is finally recovering and went back to his archives to get the last two basketball season Top Efficiency Performances together.

To the Cardinal Fanatic surprise, 2011-2012 saw a record Efficiency Performance.  2012-2013 saw some incredible underclassmen.

We will start with Honorable Mention of the 2011-2012 season and work our way up to present time...

Linden vs Plainfield Sectional Quarter Finals

A Fanatic Summation of the Linden vs. Plainfield Quarterfinal Sectional State Championship Game

The Cardinal Fanatic Efficiency Players of the game


1) Plainfield – Junior Jachai Simmons 6’7” – {ER-23}
Jachai shot 71% from below the arc and 67% from beyond the arc to score a team high 17 points.  Jachai completed a double-double performance by grabbing a game high 10 rebounds and dropping a game high tying 2 assists (Plainfield’s Ahmad Baker and Mike Kirkland also with 2 assists.

2) Linden – Junior Otis Livingston 5’11” – {ER-20}
Little “O” as we use to call him back in his recreation days in Plainfield, was on point to hold Plainfield off from the upset bid.  Otis shot 50% from below the arc, 67% from beyond the arc and 83% from the free throw line to score a game high 22 points.  Otis grabbed 1 rebound, picked up a game high tying 2 steals (Plainfield’s Mike Kirkland also with 2 steals) and dropped 1 assist.

3) Linden – Senior Juwan Jones 6’1” – {ER-18}
J. Jones shot 80% from below the arc, 40% from beyond the arc and 75% from the free throw line to score 17 points.  His backbreaking corner trey with less than 4 minutes crushed a Plainfield momentum that cut the Linden lead to 4.  The veteran Jones nailed the trey to push the lead to 7.  Jones also grabbed a team high tying 4 rebounds (Joshua Carter also with 4 rebounds) and picked up 1 steal.  Jones completed an Efficient night by committing only 1 turnover for the entire game.

4) Plainfield – Junior Ahmad Baker 6’8” – {ER-11}
Baker shot 100% from the free throw line, grabbed 2 rebounds and dropped a game high tying 2 assists.  Baker’s defense limited All-State Quadri Moore to his lowest point output in a Plainfield game in 4 years of varsity play.  Baker completed an Efficient night by committing only 1 turnover for the entire game.

5) Linden – Junior Joshua Carter 6’3” – {ER-10}
J. Carter shot 50% from below the arc, 50% from beyond the arc and was 100% from the free throw line.  Carter grabbed a team high tying 4 rebounds and picked up 1 steal.  Joshua completed an Efficient night by committing only 1 turnover for the entire game.

Millburn vs Plainfield

1) Plainfield – Senior Clarence Hoover 6’1” – {ER-16}
Hoover scored a game high tying 19 points (Millburn’s Max Jacobs also scored 19 points), grabbed 5 rebounds, picked up 1 steal and dropped a game high 4 assists.

2) Millburn – Junior Max Jacobs 6’2” – {ER-15}
Sir Maximus dropped a game high tying 19 points on 46% shooting from below the arc, perfect from beyond the arc and 100% shooting from the free-throw line. Jacobs also grabbed 3 rebounds, picked up a game high tying 2 steals (Plainfield’s Steve Jones and Christan Cook also with 2 steals) and dropped 1 assist to lead Millburn.

3) Millburn – Senior Jordan Khan 6’5” – {ER-15}
Jordan shot 100% from the field, grabbed a game high 8 rebounds, and rejected a team high 3 shot attempts.

4) Plainfield – Senior Steve Jones 6’0” – {ER-13}
J Jr. shot 60% from the field, grabbed 4 rebounds, picked up a game high tying 2 steals and dropped 1 assist.  Jones completed an Efficient night by committing only 1 turnover for the entire game.

5) Millburn – Senior Ben Kizel 5’11” – {ER-12}
Ben shot an Efficient 80% from the free throw line, grabbed 7 rebounds, picked up 1 steal and dropped a team high tying 2 assists (Jake Bank also with 2 assists).

Other Note Worthy Performances

Plainfield – Senior Mike Kirkland 6’1” – {ER-12}
Michael K was perfect with his shooting from below the arc, grabbed 2 rebounds, picked up 1 steal, dropped 2 assists and rejected 2 shot attempts.  Kirkland completed a very Efficient night by not committing any turnovers for the entire game.

1) Plainfield – Junior Jachai Simmons 6’7” – {ER-18}
Jachai shot 56% from below the arc, grabbed a team high 6 rebounds, picked up a game high 3 steals (Plainfield’s Christan Cook and Steve Jones) and dropped a game high tying 2 assists (Plainfield’s Clarence Hoover and Edison’s Raekwon Ross also with 2 assists).  Jachai committed only 1 turnover for the entire game.

2) Edison – Senior Travon Washington 6’4” – {ER-16}
Travon shot 55% from below the arc and 50% from beyond the arc to score a game high 17 points.  Travon grabbed a game high 7 rebounds, picked up 1 steal and dropped 1 assist.

3) Plainfield – Senior Christan Cook 6’2” – {ER-16}
Cook shot 100% from below the arc and shot 83% from the free throw line.  Cook grabbed 5 rebounds, picked up a game high tying 3 steals and dropped 1 assist.  Cook completed a very Efficient night by not committing any turnovers for the entire game.

4) Plainfield – Sophomore Jaleel Simmons 6’4” – {ER-14}
The younger Simmons shot 60% from the field and 100% from the free throw line.  Jaleel also grabbed 3 rebounds, picked up 2 steals, dropped 1 assist and rejected one-shot attempt.  Jaleel played a very Efficient night by committing 0 turnovers.

5) Plainfield – Junior Ahmad Baker 6’8” – {ER-14}
The Baker was cooking as Ahmad shot 100% from the field.  Baker grabbed 4 rebounds, dropped 1 assist and rejected a game high 2 shot attempts.

Other Note Worthy Performances

Edison – Senior Devon Johnson 6’4” – {ER-12}
Johnson shot 50% from the field and 100% from the free throw line.  Johnson grabbed 5 rebounds and picked up 1 steal.

Plainfield – Senior Clarence Hoover 6’1” – {ER-11}
Hoover shot 60% from below the arc and 38% from beyond the arc to score a team high 16 points.  Hoover grabbed 1 rebound, picked up 1 steal and dropped a game high tying 2 assists.

Plainfield vs Hillsborough

1) Hillsborough – Senior James Smith 6’0” – {ER-22}
J Smith shot 63% from the field and 100% from the foul line to score a game high 20 points.  Smith also grabbed 2 rebounds and dropped a game high 4 assists.

2) Hillsborough – Junior Jalen Parham 6’5” – {ER-20}
The son of former Plainfield State Champion Coach Lenny Parham came back to haunt Plainfield.  Jalen shot 80% from the field and 100% from the free throw line.  Parham grabbed a game high 10 rebounds to complete a double-double effort.  Jalen also picked up a team high tying 1 steal (Matt Westhal and Rob Askes also with 1 steal) and rejected a game high 2 shot attempts.

3) Plainfield – Junior Jachai Simmons 6’7” – {ER-18}
Jachai shot 86% from below the arc and shot 100% from the free throw line to score a team high 14 points.  Jachai grabbed a team high 5 rebounds, picked up 1 steal and dropped 1 assist.  Jachai completed an Efficient night by committing only 1 turnover for the entire game.

4) Hillsborough – Senior Matt Westhal 6’3” – {ER-10}
Westhal shot 50% from below the arc and 100% from beyond the three-point line.  Westhal grabbed 2 rebounds, picked up a team high tying 1 steal and dropped 3 assists.  Matt completed a very Efficient night by having a 3:1 assist to turnover ratio.

5) Plainfield – Sophomore Jaleel Simmons 6’4” – {ER-8}
Jaleel shot 50% from below the arc, grabbed 2 rebounds and dropped 1 assist.  Jaleel completed a very Efficient night by not committing any turnovers for the entire game.

Jo Jo scored a team high 16 points on 43% from below the arc, 60% from beyond the arc, and 100% from the free throw line.  Hoover also grabbed 5 rebounds and dropped a game high 6 assists.  Hoover finished the game with a 3:1 assist to turnover ratio.

2) Plainfield – Junior Jachai Simmons 6’7” – {ER-19}
Simmons dropped 13 points on 56% shooting from below the arc and 75% shooting from the free throw line.  Jachai also grabbed a game high 8 rebounds, picked up a game high tying 2 steals (Plainfield’s Ahmad Baker, Steve Jones and Christan Cook also with 2 steals), dropped 3 assists and rejected 1 shot attempt.

3) Plainfield – Junior Ahmad Baker 6’8” – {ER-17}
Ahmad grabbed 7 rebounds, picked up a game high tying 2 steals, dropped off an assist and rejected a game high tying 3 shot attempts (Englewood’s Justin Iton also with 3 rejections).

4) Englewood – Senior Nelson Goodwin 6’6” – {ER-15}
Goodwin scored 10-points on 67% shooting from below the arc.  Nelson grabbed 5 rebounds, dropped off 3 assists and rejected 1 shot attempt.  Nelson finished the game with a 3:1 assist to turnover ratio.

5) Englewood – Senior Julius Wingate 6’4” – {ER-14}
Wingate was perfect from beyond the arc and perfect from the free throw line.  Julius grabbed a team high 6 rebounds, picked up a team high tying 1 steal (Sidney Dawkins, Kristan Gill and Leon White also with 1 steal), dropped off 1 assist and rejected 1 shot attempt.  Wingate completed an Efficient night by committing only 1 turnover for the entire game.

Other note worthy performance
Englewood – Senior Justin Iton 6’2” – {ER-13}
Justin shot 67% from below the arc, grabbed 2 rebounds and rejected a game high tying 3 shot attempts.  Iton completed a very Efficient night by committing 0 turnovers for the entire game.

1)      Gill St. Bernard - Sophomore Tyus Battle 6’5” – {ER-22}
Ty Battle scored a game high 21 points on 50% shooting from beyond the arc and 100% shooting from the free throw line.  Battle also grabbed 6 rebounds, picked up 2 steals and dropped off a game high 4 assists.

2)      Gill St. Bernard – Junior Ian Demarest 6’5” – {ER-21}
There was no mystery with Mr. I.D. Channel as he shot 100% from below the arc and 60% from beyond the arc.  Ian grabbed a team high 8 rebounds, picked up 2 steals, dropped 2 assists, and rejected a team high tying 1 shot attempt (Michael Morreale and Jonas Stakeliumas also with 1 rejection).

3)      Plainfield – Senior Christan Cook 6’2” – {ER-16}
Christan shot 100% from deep, rejected 1 shot attempt, dropped 1 assist, picked up 2 steals and grabbed a game high 10 rebounds.

4)      Gill St. Bernard – Junior John Michael Mea 6’5” – {ER-13}
John Michael was perfect from below the arc, perfect from beyond the arc and perfect from the free throw line.  Michael was not all offense as he had a game high 4 steals.

5)      Plainfield – Senior Clarence Hoover 6’1” – {ER-10}
Hoover scored a team high 16 points on 57% shooting from beyond the arc.  Hoover also picked up 1 steal.  Hoover only committed 1 turnover for the entire game.
