BATTLE OF THE BACK COURT - ROUND 3

Battle of the Back Court – 7th Match Up Round 3

3z PleaZe – Sekou Harris
3z PleaZe – Allen Brown

No head to head match up in this contest but 3z PleaZe had to contend with the very talented Country Line back court led by former Pitt Panther Tony Tate.  Sekou Harris and Allen Brown had their hands full as Country Line built an early double digit lead.  But as usual the Cardiac Cardinals brought out their defibrillator to make a remarkable come back.  But the veteran play of several former Div 1 players against fresh out of High School players was enough for Country Line to hold off a furious come back.

Allen Brown had his hands full with the hot shooting Tony Tate.  Sekou was defended well.  Harris used his quickness to penetrate at will but the triple towers of Country Line altered Harris’s shot attempts.

Country Line sends 3z PleaZe’s Sekou Harris and Allen Brown home.

Game 7 advantage goes to Sekou Harris
Team high 12-points

Battle of the Back Court – 8th Match Up Round 3

Team A-Game – Tyrone Johnson
Team A-Game – Anthony Baskerville
Team A-Game – Mike Price

No head to head match up in this contest.  Tyrone Johnson command of the floor helped Team A-Game eliminate last years runner up, Blazin Bums.  Johnson controlled the floor well and set up plays for his former team mate, Justin Sears.  Sears would be the high scorer of the game but Johnson’s play was directly responsible.  Anthony Baskerville and Mike Price did not get into any rhythm and was not able to gain the advantage of the better back court player.

Game 8 advantage goes to Tyrone Johnson
50% shooting from the floor
3 rebounds
3 assists

Battle of the Back Court – 9th Match Up Round 3

Rush Hour – Jerrel Thompson
Rush Hour – Anthony Nelson
Bada Bing – Mike Gordon
Rush Hour – Andre Dabney

In the head to head match up of the Battle of the Back Court, Bada Bing suffered a set back with the absence of the leader of Round 1 Derrick Gordon.  Rush Hour got an added plus with the addition of former 1,000 point scorer Jerrel Thompson.  Mike Gordon had a tougher challenge as Nelson, Thompson, and Dabney gave Bada Bing a three headed attack.  Anthony Nelson would end up as the game high scorer while Mike Gordon would lead his team in scoring but would suffer his first defeat in 2 years in the Gee-Gee Brown Tournament.

Although Nelson would drop a game high 19 points, it was the all around play of Jerrel Thompson who got the Cardinal Fanatic vote for the top guard in this match up.  Jerrel would score in double digits with his efficient scoring and also took care of the ball well by committing only 1 turnover for the game.  Thompson would finish the game with a respective 4:1 assist to turnover ratio.

Game 9 advantage goes to Jerrel Thompson
13 – points scored
43% shooting from the floor
80% shooting from the free throw line
4 assists
4 rebounds
2 steals
