A Fanatic Summation of the Plainfield vs. Roselle Catholic Game

Plainfield down 15-points with 4:30 remaining made a remarkable comeback to pull out one of the most exciting comebacks in recent memory.  The only comeback that may surpass this one was when Plainfield was down 21 points and came back to defeat Paterson Eastside at the RAC for the North Group IV State Championship back in 1983.

Where did Plainfield win this game?

Block Shots – Plainfield was +5 in this category.  Plainfield rejected 7 shot attempts, which equates to 14 potential points for Roselle Catholic.  Ahmad Baker helped the cause with 2 rejections.

Rebounds – Plainfield was +6 in this category.  Plainfield grabbed a whopping 30 rebounds.  This was a total team effort.

Free Throws – Plainfield shot a solid 82% from the free-throw line that helped the Cardinals get a +4 advantage in this statistical category.

Points in the Paint – Amazingly against the taller Roselle Catholic, Plainfield had a 10-point advantage in this statistical category.  The Cards shot at a 60% clip below the arc.

1)      Plainfield - Senior Clarence Hoover 6’1” – {ER-41}
To get a 40+ Efficiency rating you have put yourself in an elite class.  DeAndre Bembry (St. Joseph University), Justin Sears (Yale University), Jerome Frink (Florida International University) and Kyrie Irving (Cleveland Cavaliers) are the only players in 4 years of record keeping to break the 40+ Efficiency Rating.  Hoover did just that with a miracle 14-point 3 steal 4th period performance that was done in a 5-minute stretch.  This is comparable to Kenny Fields 21-point 4th period outburst against Atlantic City back in 1980!  Jo Jo shot 73% from below the arc, 38% from 3-point land and 86% from the free throw line to score a game high 37-points.  Hoover stuffed the stat sheet by grabbing 5 rebounds, picked up a game high tying 4 steals (Roselle Catholic’s Asante Gist also with 4 steals) and dropped a team high 5 assists.

2)      Roselle Catholic – Junior Kameron David 5’11” – {ER-22}
KD scored 17-points on 50% shooting below the arc, a Planet Venus 80% from the 3-point line and 75% from the free throw line.  Kameron also grabbed 1 rebound and picked up 2 steals.  KD had an Efficiently impressive 2:0 assist to turnover ratio.

3)      Roselle Catholic – Junior Isaiah Briscoe 6’4” – {ER-21}
Arguably one of the best players in the state, Briscoe dropped a team high 27-points on 47% shooting below the arc. Briscoe also grabbed 7 rebounds, picked up 2 steals and dropped 3 assists.

4)      Roselle Catholic – Sophomore Asante Gist 5’11” – {ER-21}
Gist shot an Efficient 60% from below the arc, 50% from beyond the arc and 100% from the free throw line to score 16 points.  Asante also grabbed 1 rebound, picked up a game high tying 4 steals and dropped a game high 6 assists.

5)      Plainfield – Junior Jachai Simmons 6’7” – {ER-18}
“Slim Shady” Simmons dropped 16-points on 55% shooting from below the arc which included a couple of weak side ally-oops rim shakers.  Jachai also shot an Efficient 80% from the free throw line, grabbed 5 rebounds, picked up 1 steal, dropped 4 assists and rejected 1 shot attempt.


Other Notable Performances

Roselle Catholic – Sophomore Matt Bullock 6’4” – {ER-14}
Bullock shot 75% from below the arc, grabbed 3 rebounds and picked up 3 steals.

Roselle Catholic – Junior Chris Silva 6’10” – {ER-13}
Silva was perfect shooting from below the arc, grabbed 5 rebounds, picked up 1 steal, dropped 1 assist and rejected 1 shot attempt.  Silva did not commit any turnovers for the entire game.

Plainfield – Senior Jordan Sears 6’5” – {ER-12}
Sears overtime rejection was pivotal in giving Plainfield the victory.  Jordan shot 80% from the free throw line to score 10-points.  Sears also grabbed a team high 7 rebounds, dropped 1 assist and rejected a game high 3 shot attempts.

Plainfield – Senior Mike Kirkland 6’0” – {ER-12}
Kirkland was perfect shooting from below the arc.  Mike grabbed 3 rebounds, picked up 1 steal and dropped 1 assist.

Plainfield – Sophomore Jaleel Simmons 6’4” – {12}
Jaleel shot 100% from the free throw line, grabbed 4 rebounds, picked up 2 steals, dropped 2 assists and rejected 1 shot attempt.  Simmons only committed 1 turnover for the entire game.

Plainfield – Senior Christan Cook 6’2” – {11}
Cook shot 100% from below the arc, 100% from beyond the arc and grabbed 5 rebounds.

Roselle Catholic – Sophomore Ganlandou Cisse 6’8” – {ER-10}
Ganlandou shot 100% from below the arc, grabbed 4 rebounds and picked up 1 steal.  Cisse did not commit any turnovers for the entire game.



The efficiency rating is base on points scored, shooting accuracy, foul shooting accuracy, rebounds, assists, steals, defensive intensity, and assist – turnover ratio.
