Fanatic Summation of the Columbia vs. Plainfield Game

Columbia was primed for the upset against the #7 Plainfield Cardinals for 3 periods. On a scale of 10, the Cards played an 8.8. This is their highest rating since the Lakewood game in the Neptune Holiday Jubilee. The size, athletic ability, and the balance scoring held back a stubborn competitive Columbia Cougar team.

Columbia’s early hot shooting in combination with the Cards offensive woe’s helped the Cougars maintain a lead mid way through the 3rd period. With no player scoring more than 12 points, the Cardinals took advantage of the Cougars focusing on shutting down Tyrone Johnson. With balance scoring, rebounds, and defense Plainfield overcame a stubborn Cougar.

The most disappointing period for the Cards was the 1st. Columbia’s Jamar Chavis 3 point shooting gave the Cougar’s the early lead. The Cards dismal 13% shooting in the 1st period did not help. The Cougars held a 10 – 3 lead with less than 30 seconds remaining in the period before Ricky Terry hit a three.

The most impressive period for the Cardinals was the 4th. The defensive pressure was intense and it held the Cougar’s to only one field goal made in the final period. A late free throw gave the Cougar’s a total of 3 points for the 4th period.

The Plainfield Fanatic Efficient 5 for the game
1) Columbia – Junior Jamar Chavis – 6’0” {ER – 22}
Jamar was the game high scorer with 16 points. In the 3rd period he nearly single handily held off the Cards comeback. Jamar shot 80% from the floor on mostly midrange jumpers and shot 67% from three point range. His game was not only jacking up shots, he also led the team in assists.

2) Plainfield – Sophomore Justin Sears – 6’7” {ER – 18}
Justin was one of 4 Cardinals that scored in double digits. Sears scored 11 points, grabbed a team high 6 rebounds, and a game high 3 rejections.

3) Plainfield – Senior Mike Price – 6’2” {ER – 17}
Mike Price played his best game of the season. Price shooting was money. Mike shot 67% percent from the floor and led the team in scoring. A near complete game was displayed by Price. He garnished a game high 5 steals, dropped game high 4 assists, and soared for 3 critical rebounds in the 4th period run to seal the game.

4) Plainfield – Sophomore Sekou Harris – 5’8” {ER – 13}
Sekou is developing nicely. His shot is becoming more consistent. Sekou went on a scoring binge when he dropped 9 points (3 three pointers) in less than 2 minutes. Sekou shot 60% from behind the arc and perfect from the foul line. Harris was also in the mood of giving by dropping a team high (along with Price) 4 assists.

5) Columbia – Junior Austin Little 6’2” {ER – 12}
Austin benefited from Jamar’s hot shooting. With the Cardinals playing help defense to slow down Jamar, Austin shot 60% from behind the arc and hit 50% of his pull jumpers. If Jamar was not dropping assists to Austin, Austin was dropping assists to Jamar. Austin led the team in assists along with Jamar Chavis.

The efficient rating was based on shooting accuracy, foul shooting accuracy, rebounds, assists, steals, defensive intensity, and turnovers.
