We are down to the final 10 best players of all time nomination out of
Plainfield High School. These players
are legends of legends on the Hardwood of Plainfield High School Basketball
history. These were the players that
made thousands of Plainfield fans become Road Warriors and create a fanatic fan
base that no other Basketball Program in the state (well with the exception of
maybe Camden in the 70’s and 80’s) can compare to. These are the players that
influence Hall of Fame Basketball Coach Bob Hurley to express, “Plainfield is
one of the best basketball communities in the State of New Jersey.” Any of
these top 10 players have a legitimate grievance to be the greatest basketball
player to wear the Cardinal uniform.
One thing all fans can say, these were the players that made us rise out
of our seats on their play on the Hardwood! A brief description of their
accomplishments will explain the greatness of each of the top 10 players. There have been legendary stories of some of
these players which could catapult these players into the greatest but when
this 20th/21st century fan base is long gone, the
numbers, the championships and the banners will be the only factual information
for fans 100 years from now to understand.
During the Gee Gee Brown Tournament, MC and Tournament
coordinator Jabar Jones (#25 on the all time list) rounded up all the old
school fanatics to make a decision on who were the greatest ballers. The disagreements nearly led to brawls in
the parking lot. But like in the old
school days we agreed to disagree and shook hands and called it a day. But the decision for the #1 player was
nearly unanimous with Plainfield Recreation Basketball Coordinator and member
of Plainfield first ever state championship, Lenny “Buggy” Cathcart giving the
final opinionated vote. But the legendary stories will carry on for all the
championship teams and top players.
First lets review #11 - #25 nominated best players:
