Sophomores Allen-Jordan, Sears, & Harris lead Cardinals

Central Jersey Academy High Prep (CJAH) matched up size for size but may have been a little more physically stronger than the younger Cardinals. The Cardinals accepted the pre-season challenge and came out on top 3 of the 5 periods.

The Cardinals played man to man against the more physical CJAH and played evenly up until the final 2 minutes of the period. The Cardinals went on a 6 – 0 run with several fast break opportunities punctuated with a one handed stuff by Tyrone Johnson.
Plainfield edges CJAH 12 - 8

The Card’s started off the 2nd period as they finished the 1st with a 6 – 0 run. CJAH calls time out to regroup. CJAH came out of the time out with an 11 – 4 run to finish the 2nd session and edging the Cards 11-10.

The 3rd session was played evenly again, but today it seemed the team who would make a run would take advantage of the session. The Cardinals would be the team in the 3rd session to go on an 11 – 4 run punctuated with a tremendous slam on a contested shot by 6’5” sophomore Diijon Allen-Jordan. Plainfield 17-11

CJAH received a tongue lashing from their coach concerning their play. They responded by going on a 13 – 3 run to start the 4th session led by the sizzling 3 point shooting of Douglas Mills. Plainfield made a run also punctuated by a tremendous baseline slam by another sophomore, 6’6” Justin Sears. CJAH 17-10.

After giving up 17 points in the 4th session, the Cards played tough in your face man to man defense. The Cards focused on denying any open shots for the hot shooting guard Douglas Miller of CJAH. Miller could not get any 3 point attempts off during the final session. Again, another run would decide the period. The run was initiated with a baseline shake by Tyrone Johnson who had to show the sophomore studs how it’s supposed to be done by slamming it home. The Cards went on a 10-2 run and eventually closed out the scrimmage taken advantage of the 5th session 11-6.

Notes:

This was first out of 3 scrimmages that the Cards were out rebounded but that was countered by yet another balance scoring effort by the Cards led by Tyrone Johnson, Diijon Allen-Jordan and Justin Sears.

Justin led the team in rebounds; while yet another sophomore Sakou Harris led the team in assists.

Douglas Mills led CJAH with his 67% shooting from behind the arc.
