Plainfield won the field goals made comparison by +10. Plainfield converted 20 field goals to Elizabeth’s 10. Elizabeth was able to keep the game close with the hot shooting of Hakeem Rogers. Rogers’s hot shooting from deep gave the Minutemen the advantage of treys made. The Cardinals were a -3 in the 3-point conversion comparison. Elizabeth connected on 7 3-pointers. The Cardinals converted 4.
Where did the Cardinals win this game? The Cardinals continue to play sluggish within conference play. Elizabeth shot well and battle with the Cardinals on pure hustle on both ends of the floor. The Minutemen was in shape for the upset with the lead entering the 4th period. The sense of urgency must have been expressed during the intermission between the 3rd and 4th period. The Cardinals came out with an exponential defensive effort and hustle. Again, the bench provided a spark as Chad Lewis and Phillip “The Microwave” Tharpe initiated a rally. Chad battled the physical play of the Minutemen by using his strength to hold off his opponents. This sparked Dii’Jon Allen-Jordan and Justin Sears to dominate on the boards. The Microwave Tharpe initiated a 16-0 run the put the game away with a corner 3-pointer that hit nothing but net. Sekou then followed with a trey of his own with Jahmal Lane, Dii’Jon, and Justin converting on nearly all attempts within the paint.
Cardinal Fanatic Efficient 5
1) Plainfield – Junior Justin Sears 6’8” {ER-30}
Sears has put up the most 30+ ER ratings in the past 2 years. Mr. Double-Double continues his statistical feat by scoring a team high 20 points on 50% shooting from the field. Justin gave a Magic like performance by grabbing a game high 14 rebounds while dishing out a game high 5 assists.
2) Plainfield – Junior Dii’Jon Allen-Jordan 6’6” {ER-23}
Dii’Jon “The Rejecter” Allen-Jordan and Justin “Double Mint” Sears has formed what is now known as the Dynamic Duel. One of Justin game high 5 assists was converted with an emphatic baseline 2 handed slam dunk by the high flying Allen-Jordan. Dii’Jon scored 15 points on 55% shooting from the floor. Allen-Jordan also had a game high 4 steals and a game high 3 rejections to go along with 9 rebounds.
3) Elizabeth – Sophomore Hakeem Rogers 6’2” {ER-21}
The further back Hakeem shot the rock, the higher his shooting percentage. Rogers shot 40% below the arc but shot a warm 56% from behind the arc. Rogers hit several 3-pointers that were will behind the professional 3-point line. Rogers connected from deep 5 times which had the Minutemen on the verge of the upset. Hakeem scored 26 points to lead all scorers.
4) Plainfield – Junior Jahmal Lane 6’3” {ER-19}
Jahmal continues to let the game stay within the frame work of the plan. Not forcing any shots, Jahmal shot an efficient 57% from the field to tally 9 points to go along with 7 rebounds.
5) Elizabeth – Senior Malik Wineglass 6’7” {ER-15}
Wineglass foul trouble was a major factor in the Cardinals holding off the Minutemen. Malik battled admirable in the middle helping the Minutemen attain the lead entering the 4th period. Malik led the Minutemen with 9 rebounds and 2 rejections to help Elizabeth hold their own in the paint.
The efficiency rating is base on points scored, shooting accuracy, foul shooting accuracy, rebounds, assists, steals, defensive intensity, and assist – turnover ratio.
