A Fanatic Summation the State Sectional Quarter Finals - Somerville vs Plainfield Game
Somerville Student Fanatics!!
Plainfield and Somerville both scored 14 field goals below the arc. Plainfield scored 5 3-pointers compared to Somerville’s 2. This gave Plainfield a 9 point advantage in shooting behind the arc. Plainfield connected on 15 free throws while Somerville connected on 13 which gave the Cardinals a 2 point advantage and the final difference in the final score of 11 points.
Where did the Cardinals win this game? The Cards reverted back to what they do best. Clean the glass and throw a party! Jahmal Lane and Justin Sears combined to play the roll of Mr. Windex by combining for 21 rebounds. The Block Party Crew was back in full effect as Lane, Sears, Dii’Jon Allen-Jordan and Denzel Christian all had multiple rejections. Somerville’s excellent team foul shooting (13 – 13) kept the Cardinals from running away with the game.
Cardinal Fanatic Efficient 5
1) Plainfield – Junior Justin Sears 6’8” {ER-24}
Sears is not your ordinary fly by night mom and pop store. When you need it, Sears provides it. Justin came up big when needed the most. Justin earned his biggest double-double effort to ward off the stubborn Pioneers from Somerville. Justin scored a game high 19 points on 54% shooting from the floor. Justin completed his double-double effort by grabbing a game high 13 rebounds. Sears also led the “BLOCK PARTY CREW” with a game high tying 3 rejections (Jahmal Lane also with 3 rejections). Justin also dropped a couple of assists and picked up a steal to complete his impressive stat line.
2) Somerville – Senior Steve Garfi 6’0” {ER-20}
Garfi gutsy effort late in the game kept the Pioneers in reach for pulling the upset. The sharp shooting guard scored 14 points on 60% shooting below the arc, perfect from the tri-fecta and perfect (5-5) from the free-throw line. Steve also had a game high 3 steals and dropped 2 assists.
3) Plainfield – Junior Jahmal Lane 6’3” {ER-17}
Lane showed his 3 year varsity composure by not trying to do too much but do what was needed for the team. The original “BLOCK PARTY CREW” member rejected a game high tying 3 shots. Lane also was efficient in the shooting department by scoring 8 points on 60% shooting from the floor and 100% shooting from the free throw line. To even add more to Jahmal’s stat line, he grabbed 8 rebounds and dropped 2 assists.
4) Somerville – Senior Jake Grady 6’5” {ER-16}
Jake carried the load for the Pioneers as he battled in the paint with the Plainfield big men. Jake scored a team high 15 points and grabbed a team high 8 rebounds. Jake was perfect from the foul line, dropped 2 assists, and had 1 rejection.
5) Plainfield – Junior Sekou Harris 6’0” {ER-13}
Sekou Harris provided what we call the “CHECK MATE” move in the first period by connecting on back to back treys to open up the scoring. Harris scored 16 points with 12 points coming from 57% shooting from behind the arc. Harris also had a team high tying 2 steals (Dii’Jon Allen-Jordan also with 2 steals) and officially joined the BLOCK association with a rejection.
The efficiency rating is base on points scored, shooting accuracy, foul shooting accuracy, rebounds, assists, steals, defensive intensity, and assist – turnover ratio.
