A Fanatic Summation of the Roselle Catholic vs Plainfield Game

The top 2 teams in the county battled to a near draw but a couple of statistical categories gave the Cardinals the victory.  Points in the paint was a near dead heat with the Cardinals having a 2 point advantage shooting at an accuracy of 51%.  Roselle Catholic shot an identical 51% (actually 1/10 of a percent better).  Three pointers made was also a near dead heat with the Cardinals holding a 3-point advantage (Cardinals 3 made 3-pointers; Roselle Catholic 2 made 3-pointers).  Rebounds were another category that was a near dead heat with Roselle Catholic holding a 1-rebound edge.  Both teams had 7 steals and the Cardinals only had 1 less turnover than Roselle Catholic.  The block shot category was also a near dead heat with the Cardinals getting 5 rejections to Roselle Catholics 3 rejections.  Finally to exemplify how even this game was contested the Cardinals had 11 personal fouls while the Lions had 12 personal fouls. 

So where did the Cardinals win this game?
        Foul Shooting – The Cardinals have shown some slight inconsistencies but overall this may be the best foul shooting team in Plainfield history.  Neither team shot lights out from the free throw line but Roselle Catholic’s 40% accuracy was pivotal.  The Cardinals shot a mild 75% from the free throw line making 5 more free throws and giving the Cardinals the separation they needed to pull out the victory. 
        Sharing the Rock – It’s amazing that a category as sharing the ball can separate teams from loosing and winning.  The Cardinals have been consistently spreading the ball and there seems to be no answer to it than chemistry.  The Cardinals dropped 17 assists compared to the Lions 7 assists.

Cardinal Fanatic Efficient 5

1) Plainfield – Senior Jahmal Lane 6’4” {ER-24}
Lane came up big with his Efficient performance.  Lane shot an economical 88% from the floor (7 for 8 shooting) to score 14 points.  Lane then missed a double double by 1 rebound by grabbing 9 boards.  Lane also had 2 steals, dropped 2 assists, and rejected 1 shot to earn Efficiency Performer of the Game. 

2) Plainfield – Senior Sekou Harris 6’0” {ER-22}
Sekou “Trey Swish” Harris 100% shooting from the free-throw line which helped him score a game high 17 points.  Harris did more than just shooting the rock.  Harris grabbed 4 rebounds, had 1 steal, and dropped a game high 8 assists.

3) Roselle Catholic – Senior Jameel Warney 6’8” {ER-20}
The former Maxson Middle School attendee and current Queen City resident showed no allegiance to his hometown.  The Stoney Brook University bound Warney shot an Efficient team high 67% from the floor.  Warney also had a team high tying 6 rebounds (Chris Gross also with 6 rebounds), a team high 4 assists, and a team high 3 rejections.

4) Plainfield – Senior Dii’Jon Allen-Jordan 6’6” {ER-17}
Dii’Jon shot 67% from the floor and 75% from the free throw line to total 15 points for the game. Dii’Jon also grabbed 3 rebounds, had 1 steal and dropped off 3 assists.

5) Roselle Catholic – Senior Chris Gross 6’7” {ER-17}
Chris shot 75% from the floor to score a team high 11 points.  Chris also grabbed a team high tying 6 rebounds, picked up 2 steals, and dropped 2 assists.  Chris was also Efficient with taking care of the rock as he only committed 1 turnover for the entire game.

 

The efficiency rating is base on points scored, shooting accuracy, foul shooting accuracy, rebounds, assists, steals, defensive intensity, and assist – turnover ratio.
